When I was younger and iPods were still relatively new, it was fashionable to exchange iPods with someone else on the street to see the music they had. There was a small group of owners and because of that there was a certain amount of trust in exchanging iPods. If you were seen with one, it was a sign of your coolness and eclectic tastes in alternative music.

Today, as I am quickly discovering, a similar thing is happening with macbooks. In the past two days I’ve been approached to keep an eye on someone’s macbook while they went somewhere. People who have these small, beautiful pieces of technology know their values and their power. You don’t want to ask just anyone to look out for it because for all you know they might run away with it. Only owers can be trusted with these marvels. Apple truely has created a clan of loyal users.

Watching people cheat

While proctoring CSI 201′s final exam I was delightfully amused at how people cheat. First of all, it was open notes, slides, book, and previous tests exam so if you still need to cheat despite all those sources you really are special. Yet, people still did cheat. You would think that a cheater would be good at it by now, since most likely they have cheated at some other part of life, however they seem as unexperienced as pre-school children trying to cheat. Like one guy: its obvious you are cheating when you look around and flip aimlessly at the test and stop to write at the same time your buddy to your right is writing the answers. Oh, did I mention the excessive looking around to see where the other TA’s were? Sigh..

Crisp November Air

I believe that my favorite season is the one that is unnamed – the one that is after fall but before winter. Its the one where the leaves have almost entirely fallen yet can still be seen on the ground above the grass which still is green. The air is cold enough to see clouds of smoke appear in front of you while you wait for the bus, but not enough to require a jacket. The sun also shines less, but when it does its brighter than in the summer because clouds are almost non-existent. Ah, the dualities of this season. Everything is falling, getting darker, and colder: and yet it is not. There is something about this that just makes me really excited and happy – perhaps it is because the best moments in my life have taken place during this time of year.

Eve of the due date

The night before assignments are due in my Comp Sci. 201 class is always exciting. There is always about 5 people (some which I don’t know) requesting assistance fixing errors in their program. Its not hard to help them, but you end up spending a good amount of time with each e-mail. The best part however is that you see all the different ways to tackle a problem, some you see cheated, others use the most creative lines of code which you would think to be silly and yet.. it still works in the end. Never thought I would learn from students in this way but I constantly find myself sketching my head and thinking “oh! I like this.. what they did is really cool”.

Not only did I reach the 111,111.1 miles in my “94 Ford Escort (with spoilers) but I reached it right when I pulled into my driveway after traveling +150 miles from Albany (NY) to New Jersey. What a coincidence.

My Name

I doubt many feel the satisfaction that I get when someone correctly spells out my name. For instance today when I went to the ’round the corner Starbucks and the sympathetic cashier asked for my name to put on the cup and to my amazement she even added the accent over the e, like so é. Despite the not so great Mocha Frappuccino, I am still splendidly pleased with my name corrected spelled out on the side of the cup.

Board games

As a child I never had the opportunity to play those board games that have pictures of entire families playing them. Reason: All I had was my mother to play with me. Last night I had the chance to play Life, a game that I’ve played many many times with my mother, but this time it was actually fun and we played with the rules (with many that I never knew existed). You see, when I learned how to play the game English was still foreign to me, and therefore I had no way of knowing what the rules were. Grant is cute, trying to count or add up large numbers. Evan, well he is indeed a sort of lost child (ah.. preteen years). And Brienne is awfully patient.

Valentines has never been a day that I really regarded as being all that special, for it is as insignificant as some other dates in the Christian calendar that have only symbolic meaning and no actual relation to an actual event. But that has changed this year, Valentines does have a meaning, its the day that I first went out with my princess to get the longest cup of coffee I have ever had.

From that first day, I noticed the quirks in you. Like how you found it odd that someone would ask for your name for the cup (that was also a great way to start the conversation for the night)… Ever time I go to that Starbucks I remember where we sat that endless night. The best thing is is that it never gets old, you are always full of new and surprising things. I guess I just can’t get enough of you.

What is most striking is that every time we do something old, is to see how much we have changed. What we are now are leaps and bounds from where we once were. Just looking back 6 months, we seem to have totally changed, no topic is too risky, no fight is too deadly, and no dream is too far fetched.

I don’t quite know how I lived before meeting you, and much less how I would leave without you in the future (or even now, when I haven’t see you for over a month).

Tutoring

Last semester I tutored one girl, and that was cool. It was fun to try to give someone some sense of what a derivative is, or what the proof means… This semester I have 3 people! It’s so much fun, one is in a class that I am yet to take, the othet one is in the math class I took last semester, and one is in my computer science class (not that there is much to teach). Yesterday I met with all three of them, I don’t think I need any more proof that I was meant to become a Professor.
